Volunteer Opportunities 101

I chanced upon this video and decided to share a couple of volunteer opportunities along with it; but before that I’d like to bring some food for thought to the statement

‘We have too much.’

I don’t think majority would agree to this without hesitation, I’m not sure, but I suppose I once found it hard to think we have too much because we never have enough. But since we are never going have enough anyway, wouldn’t it be continue calculating how to ever get ‘enough’? It’s the greatest self imposed and silly subconscious barrier that we build ourselves between our society today and one where we allow trust and kindness to embrace us wholeheartedly.

I’m glad to see all these youth movements being initiated, but don’t just sit back and relax, step up to support it if you want to see that change, however small:

1 Happyness in 5 (Hi-5)
Happyness in 5 – Hi-5 in short, is essentially a 5 day mini-movement by youths for youths to spread happiness in Singapore through little acts of love and kindness. There’s no age limit for volunteers, and it honestly doesn’t matter where you’re from so long as you’ve got a heart and are open to new experiences. Just a heads up, no CIP hours are awarded as we want our volunteers to commit purely out of passion.

2 Merry Marathon
In collaboration with Positive Intentions, a few students are organising this Christmas Merry Marathon for the second year running! We aim to spread the Christmas spirit to beneficiaries who get neglected during this festive season. We hope that amidst the joy of celebrating with our own friends and family, we will not forget those in our society who might require our love and care as well. This year, we will be (tentatively) visiting three places: Surya Home, Fame Club and Chai Chee One Room Flats.

4 Youth Donor Club Camp
Once you hit 16 years old, you qualify to try donating blood- there are many requirements like ion level and the thickness of your veins but there are people out there who truly need your blood and if you are one of the special healthy and eligible ones, you just might be their way out of sickness. Come down to the camp to find out more about the Youth Donor Club, how to be a volunteer and why it is important to donate blood!
